Spiritual maturity: Trusting God through the storm.

 Bible Passage: Micah 7:7-9 NLT
“As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me. Do not gloat over me, my enemies! For though I fall, I will rise again. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. I will be patient as the Lord punishes me, for I have sinned against him. But after that, he will take up my case and give me justice for all I have suffered from my enemies. The Lord will bring me into the light, and I will see his righteousness.”

Life is a journey marked by seasons of joy and seasons of hardship. During challenging times, it often feels as though God’s presence is distant, leading many to question His existence. However, spiritually mature people choose to wait confidently on the Lord for His help. A distinctive trait of spiritual maturity lies in an unwavering faith in God’s character. This steadfast faith enables individuals to patiently await His assistance, even when the timing is uncertain.

When the Prophet Micah made his statement in verse 7, Israel faced conquest by Assyria and Babylon due to their sins against God. Despite these dire circumstances, Micah clung to hope in the merciful character of God, refusing to let his present situation shake his faith. This demonstrates the evidence of those who genuinely know God. Individuals who intimately know and wholly trust in God will persevere in their faith, especially when confronted with challenges. On the other hand, those lacking such knowledge may allow difficulties to breed doubt in God’s kindness, mercy, and love, potentially leading them away from their faith.

This passage emphasizes that being a Christian and receiving God’s forgiveness doesn’t exempt us from all the consequences of our actions. However, God’s forgiveness ensures that we are not led to eternal damnation. For example, if someone is forgiven by God after committing murder, they still may face earthly consequences such as imprisonment. Yet, amid these consequences, there is hope because God is with us.

Whether you are facing hardships as a consequence of sin or simply due to life’s challenges, never lose hope in God.
