Who are you really working for?

working

Bible passage: Colossians 3:23-24 AMP   “Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.”

When you’ve been in the workforce for a while, it’s natural to fall into a routine and lose some of the initial drive and enthusiasm you had when you first started. You might find yourself tempted to take shortcuts, like extending your lunch break or spending excessive time chatting with colleagues instead of being productive. Perhaps you’ve even considered putting in less effort because you feel underappreciated by your bosses, believing they don’t deserve your best. However, it’s essential to recognize that such behaviour does not align with the values of God. According to 2 Corinthians 5:20, we are representatives of Christ, and He certainly does not endorse laziness or halfhearted work.
From my personal experience, I’ve discovered that I am much more enthusiastic about doing my best at work when I have the mindset that I am working for God rather than solely for my earthly boss. In those moments, regardless of my boss’ reaction, I find joy knowing that I have worked in a way that pleases God. The advantage of this attitude is that I am not easily discouraged by unfair expectations or other people’s opinions because their approval does not drive my hard work but by my dedication to God. It’s an incredibly liberating experience!
Therefore, I encourage you to remember each day as you head to work that God is your ultimate boss. Make it your daily goal to work as though you are working for Him, not for man, because He will undoubtedly reward your hard work. Embracing this perspective allows you to find purpose in your work and transcend the limitations of human judgment.
