Bible passage: Matthew 7:21-23 – “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day, many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.”
The Bible passage in Matthew 7:21-23 can be unsettling, as it suggests that not everyone who claims to be a follower of God will be accepted into heaven. However, as a Christian, I believe that God is just and loving, and this passage is meant to guide us towards living a truly faithful life. It warns us against being drawn to miracles and signs, which can sometimes overshadow the true message of God’s teachings. While performing miracles is a gift some Christians may possess, it is not the sole indicator of one’s spiritual maturity or relationship with God. The key is to focus on doing God’s will, which involves studying the Bible and following its teachings with the help of the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, it is through obedience to God’s commands that we can be recognised as His children. Therefore, I encourage you to prioritise your relationship with God and dedicate yourselves to living a life that reflects His teachings.
Joshua 1:8 – “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
1 John 2:3-5 – “And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.”
