Running away from Idleness

Bible reading: Galatians 6:7
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

In a generation where technology and social media have dominated our society, it has become increasingly challenging to make good use of our limited time and be productive. I dread the idea of even thinking about how much time I’ve lost scrolling mindlessly through social media and watching shows. And for many of us, it has become our only option at the slightest wave of boredom or as a means to escape any problem we might have, rather than facing them head-on. Sadly, far too often we overlook the long-term negative effects of idleness for short-term pleasure. There are quite a few passages that discuss idleness/laziness in the bible and for good reason. However, sticking to our verse today we are warned to not deceive ourselves into thinking that there won’t be real-life consequences for our idleness. Though it may not seem like it initially, over time it could lead to depression, sickness and poverty to name a few. So I want to encourage you (and myself) to make it a daily habit to keep your hands and minds busy doing something that you know will truly benefit you. For example, spending more time studying the bible (can do wonders for your mental health!), developing transferrable skills or exercising consistently.
P.S. A little downtime watching a movie or being on social media isn’t bad, it’s all about balance!

Till next time!
