Misplaced priorities

Passage of the day: Luke 10:38-42
41But the Lord said to her, “My dear Marta,
you are worried and upset over all these details!
42There is only one thing worth being concerned about.
Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

How many of us can relate to Marta, (I know I can!). We can get so busy working towards our daily targets that our time with God starts to take a back seat. It currently feels like there is a new craze about being highly productive and maximising every hour of your day to achieve success. While that is great and even encouraged to a degree (see Proverbs 4:23), where does God fit in our busy schedules? Is spending meaningful time with Him (through bible study, worship and prayer) a priority in our day or an afterthought? Although what Marta did was good, Mary recognised that spending time with Jesus was more important and needed to come first! Sometimes we struggle to spend time with the Lord through His word because of our inability to recognise the true value of His word. Let’s check out a snippet of what was said about God’s word in Psalm 119 verse 97-105 to help us get a picture of how we should view it;
“Oh, how I love your law!
I meditate on it all day long.
Your commands are always with me
and make me wiser than my enemies.
I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders,
for I obey your precepts.
I have kept my feet from every evil path
so that I might obey your word.
I have not departed from your laws,
for you yourself have taught me.
How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.”

    Thank you very much for this piece Tobi. It’s strange I decided to randomly check my email, but now seeing that there was a specific message for me, I now know I was lead to do so.
    It’s really more challenging when you’re hit by life’s storms to focus on Jesus, but you realize that even with all that seems to have gone wrong, God’s love for you has never failed because you still see Him working out things trying to remind you that His love for you has not changed regardless. And then when you finally start to trace your way back, you begin to get a clearer picture and understanding of the scripture that says all things work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.
    Thanks for this timely reminder to get back to making God first in every single thing. God bless, keep and uphold you in His truth and righteousness. Amen!!!

      Amen!! You really hit the nail on the head and I pray that as we continue our journey with Christ, He continues to reveal His truths to us.
